CM Punk’s mixed martial arts debut didn’t go as planned. Punk suffered a first-round submission loss to Mickey Gall back in 2016 in his first-ever fight. After two more years of training, Punk returned to the Octagon this past summer in Chicago. He went the distance with former Houston Golden Gloves winner Mike Jackson but lost via unanimous decision.
It’s unlikely Punk is given another UFC fight, and will likely be released from the promotion. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean Punk is done with MMA altogether. MMA Junkie reports that Cage Fury Fighting Championship has signed Punk as a commentator.
CFFC will be broadcasting their events on UFC Fight Pass moving forward. Punk’s commentary debut will happen at CFFC 71 from the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City on December 14th. Punk had this to say on the opportunity:
“I can’t wait for this opportunity to call the CFFC fights on UFC Fight Pass,” Punk said. “CFFC has a long history of putting on exciting fights featuring some of the sport’s up-and-coming athletes.
“This card is going to be a lot of fun, and I’m really excited to have the chance to be a part of it.”
Punk will handle commentary duties alongside New Jersey radio host Mike Gill and CFFC broadcast veteran Brian Palakow. CFFC President Rob Haydak had this to say about Punk joining the promotion:
“CM Punk’s knowledge and passion for MMA is incredible, and his charisma and personality make him a perfect fit for this role.
“By pairing him with Mike Gill, a true sports broadcasting veteran who has been around the fight game his whole career in Atlantic City, we have a great combination for our first show on UFC Fight Pass.”
The hits keep coming 👊 and we're just getting started!
