At yesterday’s Crown Jewel event, WWE crowned a new Universal Champion in Brock Lesnar. Lesnar went one-on-one with Braun Strowman for the vacant strap, which was forfeited by Roman Reigns due to his battle with leukemia. Before the match started, acting Raw General Manager Baron Corbin hit Strowman in the back of the head with the Universal Title. Once the match began, Lesnar hit Strowman with five F5s before getting the three count for the win.
Lesnar is once again the WWE Universal Champion. This comes at an interesting time, however, as Lesnar is currently also training to make a return to the UFC in early 2019. Per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Lesnar has two matches left on his WWE deal. Those being a match with AJ Styles at Survivor Series, and another match at either Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.
“Lesnar is signed for at least two more appearances,” Meltzer said. “He’s gonna face AJ at Survivor Series which is non-title. Then the plan is for Strowman. Whether that’s Rumble or WrestleMania I don’t know.”
As for Lesnar’s UFC career, he has yet to sign with the promotion. He is still making quite a bit of money from his short-term WWE deals. It was said that he will not be attending the UFC fights tonight in New York City. UFC 230 is main evented by Lesnar’s suspected opponent, Daniel Cormier. Cormier defends his title against Derrick Lewis form Madison Square Garden.
