Earlier today WWE was in Saudi Arabia for their Crown Jewel pay-per-view. One of the featured attractions of the night was their World Cup tournament. In the opening rounds of the tournament, Rey Mysterio advanced by defeating Randy Orton, while The Miz advanced after beating Jeff Hardy. On the Monday Night Raw side, Seth Rollins defeated Bobby Lashley, and Dolph Ziggler defeated Kurt Angle.
In the semi-finals, Miz was able to best Mysterio, before Ziggler picked up the win over Rollins thanks to a distraction from Drew McIntyre. With those victories, the stage was set for Miz and Ziggler to battle it out in the finals. However, prior to the match getting underway, Miz attacked Ziggler. Once outside the ring, Miz seemed to injure his leg. It was deemed he was medically unfit to compete in the match.
SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon decided to step in and compete in the finals on Miz’s behalf, to represent SmackDown. McMahon ended up defeating Ziggler in a shocker, to win the first-ever WWE World Cup tournament. McMahon now has claimed to the moniker “Best In The World.” An interesting decision by WWE, to say the least.
